This Isn't Shakespeare by Stephanie Cardel

Seventeen-year-old Shakespeare-loving, ballet dancer, Madison, wants to believe that Calvin is “the one” so much, that she’s willing to overlook the fact that he doesn’t believe in God. And that he’s pressuring her to have sex. A past mistake taught her the importance of committing one hundred percent. Everyone expects her to go to Cal’s college and become a teacher, especially her mom, but she dreams of being a professional dancer.
When a Christian friend says she’s in love with love and not Calvin, her whole, perfect, happily-ever-after bubble pops. It can’t be true because she already chose to give up dance, then sealed it with the ultimate commitment to Cal.
Sifting through the lies she’s told herself to hang on to her faith nearly breaks her as she discovers how to forgive herself, seek God’s forgiveness and His will instead of her own.

THEMES:
With our sex-saturated society, many girls end up in sexual relationships, and when it ends, start believing they aren’t good enough anymore for God to love them. They also romanticize relationships and have trouble recognizing when they are in a toxic relationship, sometimes believing they deserve bad treatment. The story speaks to both of these hard issues like no other. The biggest takeaway is that God forgives all those who come to Him in repentance, and we need to trust in His plan, accept His forgiveness and live for His glory to find our happily ever after.
